6 Ways to Find Your eBay Niche Market

It is time to now sit down and ponder with a pen and paper. Define your niche in writing.

1. Write down that something you already know. Instead of learning about eBay, how to sell online, how the product works, the jargons, item specifications and the many things all at the same time, you can save a lot of work by selling something you have knowledge of.

Eg. If you knit a lot, you can sell your handicrafts, wools, knitting needles or knitting patterns, you already know these items well.

2.
Brainstorm a list of your interests. Look at your hobbies and passions. You can sell things that are related to your hobbies or pastimes. Eg. If you have a dog, you could look into pet grooming items, books about pets, dog’s jacket and the like.

3. Next you can also check out the vast categories and subcategories at Amazon.com or eBay.com. They could give you some other ideas what you have left out relating to your passion or expertise.

4.
You can further drill down your brainstorming and look for more ideas through meetup.com. Click “Browse All Interests” and you get a list hundreds of topics in which people signed up to be a part of a group. It also lists how many people joined each group, or “niche market”. You never know what item is in demand until you research.

5. Next, do a research on eBay to see if the product is sellable and what is the price the item sold at. Go to Advanced Search, keyed in the items you want to delve into, and remember to check “Completed listings only”. This will give you a list of the recent ended listing related to the keyword you keyed in, you can see how sellable they are and at what price.

Hmmm… finding a niche by corelating market data. Remarkably similar to shortlisting niche keywords to target for Adsense except you’re dealing with buying and selling physical products. Nicely written Jen.
