Are there more female or male in the blogosphere?

Ads:

Have you ever notice whether there are more males than females in the blogosphere? I didn’t until recently when more and more people commented that my blogs have more male readers than female. So, I said to myself, well, there are more masculine species in the blogs planet after all.

For many weeks, I checked on as many blog as I can. And I was absolutely wrong. There are just as many feminine species in the blogosphere.

Some also pointed out to me that usually there are more male readers in female blog and vice versa. But I find it is not really true.

From my findings:

90% of females like to visit personal blogs, parenting blogs and blogs sharing things about everyday life. Probably it is easier to relate to and it is easier to comment on something we feel connected with.

90% of male can be seen in making money blogs and technologies blogs. Probably, as Liewcf said, men are more concern about money? And men relate well naturally to technologies, there is no doubt about it.

I find that I relate well to money making blogs and technology blogs better than personal blogs though. Perhaps I just have to admit I am among the other 10% of female readers.

What about you?
Do you have more male or female readers in your blog?
What blog can you easily relate to?
Are you the 90% usual ones or part of the 10% like me?

It is hard to tell whether my readers are male or female.

How do you determine your reader’s gender?

I started off with investment wise resource blog, all i talk abt is investment resource, gold, silver, uranium, copper, stocks, bonds etc. I even has gotten my friend who is a geologist to cowrite for me. But, I got very little comments. Might be it is too intimidating to talk about investment.

Then I started my gossip column, Seay’s Kopitiam, which in fact in real life, I don’t like gossip too much , a waste of time as far as I am concern. But, guess what, I got a lot more comment than my investment blog.

Now my investment blog is gathering dust. I won’t abort it but I might not spend as much time as my gossip blog which is what my reader like more, I suppose , sigh !

To tell you the truth, I am not getting as excited to read Malaysian bloggers abt making $ on the net cos I find very superficial.

I personally find easier to make $ out of my gold and silver investment. But, I started to enjoy writing nonsense now, ie personal blog.

Mine will be mixture of male and female. I think it’s an open playing ground for everyone regardless of the gender. Everyone would have the equal chance in blogosphere.

Jamy, yeah people are more excited reading about other writing nonsense.

Since you are guru in making money out of gold and silver investment, maybe you should share your secret. Hopefully it is not superficial like making money online.

I also think it depends on the gender of the blogger…psychologically…

    Anyway, think mine’s kinda balanced.

I’m the 10% of the male whose making money is not a top priority on the net.

Aiya, sifu KH, look at this list of stock I listed :
    http://investmentwiseresource.blogspot.com/2007/04/month-later.html

From the horse mouth of someone who has invested gold for the last 20yrs and is near 80yrs old now.
    http://investmentwiseresource.blogspot.com/2007/04/wise-man-say.html

This stock double since I last posted.
The research was done by my geologist friend. I found the stock but asked her to research it.
    http://investmentwiseresource.blogspot.com/2007/03/golden-tips-2.html

Nah, I don’t like superficial stuff, I write real stuff :)-. Stuff that I really made $ !

I hope I live long enough to see gold at its peak ! That would be the days my penny stocks are in their 100’s and not in their 30’s and 40’s now.

It takes a lot of patience to invest in gold. Lots of reading, lots of waiting time, lots of plotting the graphs. But once you understand, you just sit back and relax.

I am not doing anything abt gold these few mths, just sit and relax, expect it to slowly pick up when fall comes as summer is the time fundmanagers go holiday.

Money is easy to find, health is not. I was diagnosed with an endocrine disease, sigh ! What is $ lah, it is the most worthless commodity !

Endocrine disease?! Hopefully everything is ok now. Yeah money can’t buy everything. Health is more important.

    Stay healthy and happy!

LiewCf, previous statistic? which previous? yes, mostly girls like to chat, that’s why there are more men in MMO/Technology blogs.

KuanHoong, Monkey & Kaiwah, this is by looking at my mbl widget and the number of messages I received.

Hi Jamy, the reason there are always more comments in personal blog because almost everybody can relate to it. And when we talk about guides or MMO, less people actually have experienced it, thus, they don’t know what to comment. That’s why most of the MMO sites are superficial because less % have real experience in MMO.

It all depends on your niche and objective of blogs. If you go for comments, then it is unlikely you can make much $ out of it as you have the same gang of friends over and over again.

If you go for $, then the numbers of comments shouldn’t bother you. Your main concern is on number of page view instead.

And yes, health is most important! you never know how important it is until you’ve lost it. i tried to stress that to everybody, but it is difficult to get people to believe.

Jamy, sorry to hear about your disease, is everything ok now ?

Maybe there are equal male and female bloggers. In your case, it could be the opposite sex attraction. Hence, you have more male readers compare to female readers. Same goes to male bloggers who have more female readers?

Actually, I prefer to read personal blogs that shares everything about their life, food, findings, events and happenings. It’s fun and interactive compare to specific themed blogs. Does that qualify me as the other 10%?

I think my blog has a fair share of both genders, including young and old (parents). Heh!

    KH, Bee,

No, I still have my disease :). It is a matter of managing my disease and live with it.

Don’t worry lah, I learn to live with disease since I was born, ha ha ha ha.

In the US , it is ok lah, we are very good in keeping people live to old age.

Having a disease help me to live life with a different perspective :)-

 Bee, comments are great way of chit chatting with other people virtually.

 Jason, you mean your parents read your blog too? that is really interesting..!

 Hi Jamy, sorry to hear about your disease, but it is life, we all get disease one time or another. it is either you get it now or later. disease helps us to see things in a different prespective. look at it another way, we should count ourselves lucky with disease because we are seeing & experiencing much more than many people out there.

 Boon a hamsuploh blogger will surely attracts humsuploh readers. LOL

 Connie, new look on your blog! ok, we shall all visit connie’s blog now, common guys!

For my website, Ruleof5.com (a personal development / goalsetting / achievement type website), I seem to have more male readers than female, but I am just beyond the point of being able to keep track of that. Too many visitors to keep track of.

An interesting note (or at least, interesting to me): a full 40% of my readers are from Singapore. I don’t know why. I guess I am big there, haha. Anyway, the Singaporean (is that a word?) readership seems to be a 50/50 split.

For Takuin.com (my site on the functioning of the mind, and other spiritual matters), it is close to 50/50. The readership of that site seems to be more diverse than Ruleof5. About 30% - 35% are from the USA, with the rest dispersed throughout the world.

I go to money making blogs infrequently; usually when I need information of some kind. It is not what I would consider to be a “riveting” read. But I do find it all extremely useful.

I guess I am more into personal develpoment blogs. Something like Stevepavlina.com. I like that site because you can get so much information on a huge variety of topics.

As a side note: this is an exciting time for me, because I am now popular enough to receive comments somewhat frequently. Woo-hoo! I am sure you are far beyond that point Jenny, but it still must be exciting for you to have that kind of interactivity on your site. Right?

You’ll need a forum before long.

Thanks for stopping by my sites every once in a while, Jenny. It is always nice to see you there.

    Hi Taikun,
I visited yr site briefly. Very informative site.
I find it a challenge to read yr site cos each topics is too long. Might be it is just me, I speed read, I took up speed reading 2 yrs back.
It is ok to read a book that is thick but it is another matter to read on screen.
I like short and precise kind of article but it is just me.
    Keep up the good work.
