David Coulthard’s Formula 1 Race Car
Red Bull are to auction the car driven by David Coulthard at the 2007 British Grand Prix. The auction, held in aid of the Wings for Life charity, will get underway on the eBay website in March.
The car will be sold complete with its special ‘Faces for Charity’ livery, which the team ran during the event at Silverstone last year. More than 50,000 Formula One fans donated money to the spinal cord charity in exchange for their photograph becoming part of a huge collage which covered the RB3’s bodywork.
Bids will start at one euro but the team are hopeful of earning much more money for the charity, which was set up by former Austrian motocross rider Heinz Kinigadner whose 23 year-old son Hannes was crippled in a motocross accident in 2003.
“It’s a unique opportunity to own a piece of racing history and I hope a Formula One car would go for over a hundred thousand as, at the end of the day, it’s a Formula One car,†Coulthard told Red Bull’s official website. “They are works of art, so it would be nice if it could be out on display somewhere with a message about what Wings for Life is. The more we can educate people about the charity the better it is.â€
As well as the car, the auction will feature other sporting memorabilia including motorcycle helmets from world champions Nicky Hayden and Dani Pedrosa and ski-jump helmets from Olympic champions Adam Malysz and Thomas Morgenstern. Other lots up for grabs include sightseeing tours of the Flying Bull’s historic DC6 and B-25J aircraft and the chance to play a game of football against FC Salzburg.
The auction starts on March 13 and will run until March 30.
