eBay Acquires StumbleUpon

If you haven’t already known, this piece of news was being rumored since late March to April. It finally happened. StumbleUpon is now part of eBay as of 30 May 2007.

According to eBay North America President Bill Cobb’s announcement on the eBay Announcement Board, StumbleUpon will run as a separate business unit within eBay Inc. “Although there are no definite plans to share at this time, as the site evolves, we’ll be exploring the possibilities for synergies between StumbleUpon and eBay marketplaces, Skype, and PayPal.”

I wonder what it is like when eBay and StumbleUpon combines together?

ebay acquired StumbleUpon

You probably have the StumbleUpon Toolbar with you already. When you click on Stumble it is supposed to bring you a webpage based on your preferences set. If you like the page, you can click thumbs up, meaning you like the page and the content is awesome.

Now eBay also has a toolbar. You can better protect your ebay account or search easily with features like My eBay, Account Guard, eBay Motor, eBay Express and Alerts:

So, I was thinking what would happen when these toolbars and features merged together. Will they produce a result like:

stumbleupon and ebay toolbar

Buyer fills in what eBay items they usually like to browse or buy, for example:

ebay stumbleupon category

Buyer click Stumble, she lands into a list of say, eBay bizarre auctions from you:

If the buyer likes your items, she may click the thumbs up icon, rate you and give you a review. The more people give you “thumbs up”, the more popular you become. And you get more visitors, more clicks, and eventually more business!!

And if you are popular enough, you may appear in the first page of eBay sites:

*ahem, cough, cough*

Well, I anticipate the good news how this partnership will benefit the eBay sellers and StumbleUpon users. Let’s just cross our fingers.

Have a great weekend.

hei hei wait a minute, I saw my photo there selling Excellent camera haha..
Ok Ok, this is a good tool to improve the sales and could also generate better reputation for good sellers though.

But i think for beginner seller, like me, I think it’s pretty hard for us to climb to the chart of the “popular” sellers.
