eBay’s Brilliant New Policy on Money Orders and Checks

If you’re someone who regularly sells on eBay, you might have heard about eBay’s recent policy changes. These changes state that money orders and checks would not be allowed anymore as transaction methods.
For sellers, this change in policy can be quite a good development because of the problems generally associated with money order and check transactions.
Sellers no longer need to spend the time waiting for the checks to arrive and get cleared.
With check and money order transactions, the waiting period can be quite extended indeed. This is especially true for international transactions, as you might even have to wait for a period of 14 days or more for them to arrive.
And after receiving the check and bringing it to the bank, your waiting period still isn’t over. You’ll still need to wait for about two to three business days for the bank to clear it and place the funds in your account.
The amount of time that you spend waiting for checks and money order payments is basically your time wasted.
You can start sending out and buying new merchandise faster
With electronic means such as PayPal, you get paid faster and can send out the items immediately. This is good news for the buyers but it’s much better news for sellers like you. With payments on hand, you can start getting more new merchandise to sell on eBay.
In business, having the cash always at your disposal to buy your merchandise allows you to make more transactions each month. This allows you to grow your personal eBay selling business much faster giving you much greater income.
There is much less hassle when you don’t need to deal with checks and money orders
You no longer need to keep track of arriving checks and checks waiting to get cleared. Problems can get even worse if there’s something wrong with the check and you need to contact the buyer for clarification.
If you’re someone selling many items at once on eBay, this can be quite a load off your mind. With electronic means of transactions, when your merchandise gets bought, the transaction is already finished.
When you’re dealing with a money order or check waiting to arrive, the possibility that the check is just late exists as well as the possibility that the buyer had not sent the payments at all. The many difficulties could cause a buyer to cancel the check even before it arrives.
It eliminates the additional charges that banks add to international checks or postal orders
The banks do add more fees for their services on international transactions. These fees might vary too, depending on your bank. However, these problems don’t apply to electronic transactions like PayPal since PayPal payments can be the same wherever you might be.
PayPal payments are convenient and you get paid right away
The two to three weeks of waiting when it comes to dealing with checks and money transactions are now over. With PayPal, most buyers can pay you the required funds right after he or she has won the bid.
That means that you also receive the funds quickly; that’s the kind of convenience that eBay sellers deserve and one that should truly be standard these days.

eBay’s New Policy on Money Orders and Checks are beneficial for their users. It is more convenient.
Sorry, but I don’t buy this at all. Forcing sellers to use PayPal and then pay a commission is not brilliant, it’s pure greed. I don’t take kindly to people telling me what’s good for me. I sold a few thousand items on e-bay and never got one bad check or money order…ever. So I’ll be using other auction sites…. and will not be forced to use paypal.
Baloney. Sellers always have always had the option to make their auctions PayPal only.
I use Paypal. I like PayPal. I wish more online shops accepted PayPal as payment. However, this decision was made between corporate bigwigs to increase their profit margin not for any of our benefits. Boo.
