Fraudster Posted eBay Member’s Credit Card Info On Forum

eBay suspected a fraudster stole member’s confidential information via methods like phishing. The fraudster had posted names and contact information of 1,200 eBay members on the company’s Trust & Safety discussion forum.

eBay has temporarily blocked community access to the Trust and Safety discussion forum, Sharpe said, and informed the community of the incident via the eBay Chatter blog.

There is also a thread on the Seller’s Central where member’s and eBay monitor and commented on this incident. This information leak incident was first reported by AuctionBytes.

How ironic? Member’s confidential data posted by fraudster on a Safety and Trust Forum, which was meant for discussion of eBay’s security issues.

Be extra careful when you receive email seemingly from eBay or Paypal asking for your confidential information. When in doubt, send a copy of the email to spoof@eBay.com or spoof@paypal.com for fraud verification.

Take extra precautions and beware of auctions fraud on the internet.
