Tips On Taking Photos For Dark Colored Clothings

Ads:

My friend Tina, have been pestering, asking me for quite some time now. Just like you, she’d like to start selling in eBay because she have loads of clothes in her wardrobe that she wanted to get rid, so that there’s room for more new ones…

She’s working full time in the office which means we can only meet up on weekends as I wanted to take the pictures with natural lights. So, yes, this post was kept in my folder for just a couple of weeks.

Photographs are one of the most important process in selling online as your buyers can have a look at the object and feel it with their mind how the item is like. Taking photos of dark colored object is by far the most difficult task i came across.

Our object for this project is this:

pnco_blouse

My P&Co. blouse. The above photo was taken in my room. Too dark you’d noticed, and the lighting is not bright enough to let you see more details of the blouse. My guess is buyers would most probably click the back button or go somewhere else as soon as they see this.

Next we went out to the porch. This is taken on the grill door; you know the place before the wooden door. Too bright! And it’s making the blouse appear like an old rug:

Then we went to the side of the porch to snap a pic:

Ah, don’t you think this look way better? It shows the color of the blouse nicely as I expected, you can see it is see-through and the frills or designs of the blouse are reflected perfectly.
Overall, I would sum up that the third photo is the best for placing it in auctions or for sale.

Some points to take note:
* Photos are taken without flashes. (strongly recommend you do without)
* Natural lights are the best for shooting photos particularly for dark color items. You need a place that is not too bright or too dim, something in between.

These pictures were taken with my Kodak 3.2mp camera, which i personally think the result was better than my Olympus 7.1mp camera.

Now, it is your turn to try it out!! And remember to come back and tell me about it! :)

Great advice! I’m getting back into selling on eBay after a brief stop. The one thing I dislike the most about selling is taking photos. But I just got a new camera so I’m excited to get going.
    Really enjoying your blog!
