Another factor affecting the custom duties is the structure of transaction, whether your goods are for commercial uses, for resale, lease, second hand sale, free of charge, gifts, for repair or others.

First and foremost import tax is value added tax (VAT). This is a tax levied on the total cost of the imported exchanges. This tax is due to all new products and goods imported. The rate of VAT is same as that of any product manufactured and sold within the country.

Please check before paying the VAT, whether your item is subjected to VAT payment. There are some items which do not have VAT levy. Some goods made in some favorable nations are exempted from VAT on import.

There is also a reduced VAT for goods that are imported and sold second hand. An important clause in US and EU customs law facilitates the customs rate to be charged can be based on the earlier sale of the goods prior to import. This is described as chain of sale opportunity or prior sale or earlier sale. It simply means lower customs duties.

VAT rate is based on its purchasing charge rather than its original price. Up to a certain level of total cost, the VAT duty is exempted. Discuss with a tax practitioner to get the accurate information on VAT details.
