How Did The Perfume Industry Came About

It was in real sense a turbulent beginning to this decade that would see the fragrance and perfume industry make some of its own. Riding on the commercial successes of the 70’s the designers continued to downpour the market with latest fragrances and perfumes.

The perfume and fragrance industry caught on the ideal of the responsive, triumphant “80s man” early and began to be in awe “could men be really equipped for fragrances and perfumes of their own”.

A renowned fragrance launched in the 80s was Drakkar Noir by Guy Laroche. This perfume was launched in the year 1882 to underline manliness. The result of this was the fragrance that was unquestionably manly, one that any man can go ahead and purchase with pride.

It can be said that the 80’s era was not just for men as many women fragrances also entered the market at that time. Giorgio Beverly Hills, the signature launched in the year 1981, was a complete blend of jasmine, rose, gardenia and orange flower notes.

In the year 1984, came the perfume COCO, which was created by Chanel to honor its namesake, Gabrielle Chanel. This fragrance was the combination of spicy and floral fragrances that was said to embody the spirit of Mile Chanel. Another perfume, floral-ambery Poison was debuted in the year 1985.

In the same year Calvin Klein launched its very first fragrance, Obsession and this was unusually a very strong perfume. This perfume was followed by another fragrance that was completely opposite of Obsession called Eternity. Another perfume introduced in the year 1989 was named Samsara.

Perfume holds its history back from the past thousand years. The perfume has come from a Latin word per fume which meant “through smoke”. One of the traditional uses of perfumer comes from the burning of the aromatic herbs in various spiritual services. The trade of perfumes reached to about $10 billion in the year 2002.

Various products that enhance the feel of ones skin and the smell of the body have been highly valued in each and every way of life.

The effort behind the new fragrance reflects the state of an industry that is questioning the way it has been doing business. Perfume, once a true luxury product, has become, with a few exceptions, a mere commodity in recent years. Now designer and luxury labels and the cosmetics giants are trying to restore fragrance’s prestige, notably at the high end of the market.
