Two evening gowns worn by the late Princess Diana to the Cannes Film Festival and opening of “Miss Saigon” in London in the late 1980s are up for sale on eBay.

The dresses are expected to fetch over US$1 million each and proceeds from the eBay sale will be going to America’s Promise Alliance, a charity founded by Colin Powell to help disadvantaged children stay in school.

The 10th anniversary of Princess Diana’s death is approaching and WE TV network put up one of the gown on eBay on Sunday. With a 10-day listing, the eBay auction that started on August 12 will be closed on August 22 2007.

In June 1997, WE tv purchased three of 80 gowns from Princess Diana’s personal collection, which were auctioned at Christie’s Auction House in New York City. Shortly after the auction, the world tragically lost Diana and the dresses were thoughtfully preserved in her memory.
