What To Sell During Recession? Another 6 Safest Products Ideas

I’ve previously posted about 4 recession-proof product ideas. Here’s 6 more that I can see that people will pretty much need them regardless of the economic depression. 3 of them have got something to do with technologies. This is truly a niche that grows so fast and with no boundary, it can be scary.

1. Entertainment & Pornography

"Stimulating, getting aroused, it’s fun, to relax and get rid of tension" are some of the answers why we watch a horror film, get excited over a football match, or laugh at the silly Mr. Bean jokes. They keeps us happy, smiling and satisfied. Now you know why Playboy never complains about losing sales.

2. Gadgets and Widgets

The economy may be slowing down, but technologies don’t. And you don’t stop upgrading yourself just because you are comfortable with your PSP. You want bigger and better things, a PS3 perhaps? You like to catch up with the technology, don’t you? It’s just human nature.

We like newer and faster things to help improve ourselves, technically. You just can never be satisfied even with a 3G iPhone.

3. Computers, Hardwares and Softwares

Just like gadgets, the world of hardware and software never stop evolving. There are more people staying home making money online today compared to yesterday. Everyday, there are people learning how to spin some money out of the web. And what do we all need? Computers, hardwares and softwares, the cheaper the better. The faster the better.

4. Information Communication

See where the world is heading to? People need information in the fastest possible speed. There’s Internet in PS3 and WII. There’s built-in Skype in PSP. If you know or can create a product which put people across in less than a second, you have a gold mine.

5. Dating Services

Hmm, what can I say about this? But it’s self understood. Dating services are here to stay. Singles, men, women, teens, bachelors, even the married need some space to mingle around (no, not the Facebook type of mingle).

6. Health Products

Everyone needs some sort of supplements. The healthy wants to maintain their health. The sick needs medication. The rich goes to gym. With stress on price hikes, recession and making money, people are also placing more attention to their health.

People are putting more pressure on themselves. Result? We need things that are said to improve our health, make us younger, more energetic and promise to help us stay until the age of 100 (ok, I exaggerate, but you get what I mean, don’t you?). Also, think insurance.

Selling can be difficult or easy, regardless whether it’s the effect of economy dip. Study where the demand and market is. You will surely be a winner for your products and services.

Best of luck and happy selling!

All the ten products/service are indeed very sound ones to deal in during bad times. I however believe that even during bad times, if you have differentiated yourself from your competition, you are likely to succeed irrespective of the product that you handle. During bad times, every one suffers but the better quality/service provider will suffer less.

  2. Inventory Software on June 28th, 2008

One thing I’d like to add is that if there’s a local recession, it’s a great time to diversify and go international! e.g. if you’re in the US and the US dollar goes down, it’s opening up more opportunities to export to Canada or around the world.

Like DiningRoomFurniture mentioned, this only works if your products are unique enough. It also works better for things that don’t cost a lot in shipping. Jenny brought up some that don’t even need to be shipped – information products like e-books, software, or dating services.
