More harm than good with eBay discounted listing
eBay UK is holding a half-price listing day, today, Thursday 30 2007. Anything listed in Auction Style will get a 50% rebate.
There are two major listing formats in eBay:
1. BUY-IT-NOW, where you just click the buttons to buy the items now without involving in bidding and you do not have to wait for the items until it’s listing time ends.
2. AUCTION style, where you place bid for the items and by entering the price you are willing to pay for the items, you may need to monitor your bid until the listing time ends.
You can read all the details regarding this in their promotional page.
Discounted listing fees days are great, eBay will hold discounts days every now and then. And it’s a good chance to reduce the fees you have to pay if you are selling a lot.
But you need to be careful though. Here are two major points that you may want to consider before you begin to list hysterically.
One: When eBay hold a listing sale, millions of buyers will also plan to list their items on the same day. Most of them would default to a listing duration of 7 days. This can also means that there are many more items on eBay for sale on the same day, which creates much more competition for your products. End prices could be lower than you may expect.
Two: This half price listing day is to start on Thursday. Thursday is deemed a great day to end your listing, if you launch a 7 day auction, but it also means you are competing with many of the others. A 5 day listing will end on Tuesday, but Tuesday is generally not a good day to end your listing. So, in this case, Thursday is still the best day to end your listing. But maybe I will set some to end on Tuesday too. What do you think?
To be honest, I have not been very much a fan of discounted listing days. But you can definitely save some pennies and list a greater number of items for auctions. Just do it moderately and experiment with it over time to see if it really benefits you.
I am off to list my auctions now. Are you ready? Let’s get busy!

more harm … sounds scary … but, good info, will pay attention if I ever sell there on such day.
